SMTD Provides Evacuation Services Following Blast at Local Chemical Plant

Today, SMTD provided evacuation assistance to area residents after a horrific explosion and fire at a Rockton-South Beloit area chemical plant. The explosion happened around 7 am this morning and continues to burn into the afternoon. Many local residents have been evacuated due to the fire and toxic smoke. The event occured in the heart of the SMTD service area and SMTD buses provided what services they could although most vehicles and traffic has been diverted away from the area.
